Our role in public and planetary health

Monash Public Health and Preventive Medicine is the largest School of public health in the Asia-Pacific region, delivering research, education and policy leadership that enables more effective and efficient health and social care, and saving and improving lives through better informed prevention and care.  Our shared vision is a world with Better health and wellbeing. For all. 

The School houses expertise across a broad swathe of clinical domains, applies methodological and pedagogical knowledge to deliver research and teaching excellence, and engages in methodological and pedagogical research to advance the quality and efficiency of public health research and teaching globally.

The School holds particular expertise in key public health tools including biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, big data management, clinical trials and clinical quality registries, as well as in conducting qualitative and mixed methods research. Those skills are applied to a variety of clinical domains across the life span, including planetary health, global health, infectious diseases, health services research, acute and critical care, chronic diseases, women’s health and more.

How we’re working to improve human health

Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is pioneering innovations, treatments and therapies that change the world. We are Monash University's largest research faculty and a leading provider of healthcare education in Australia. Comprising 10 schools and more than 35 specialist centres and institutes, we invest around $500 million in health and medical research each year.

By giving the world’s brightest minds access to the world’s best technology, we create a culture that supports true research excellence and enables us to tackle complex global problems, and save and transform lives. 

Our academic expertise extends across the lifecourse, with thematic research areas aligned to national and international health priorities.

We’re also one of Australia's largest providers of education for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and medical researchers, helping to build the global health workforce of the future.

With over 15,000 enrolled, our students are front and centre in everything we do. We work directly with leading healthcare providers to develop and improve our education programs, and combine real-world training, online and face-to-face learning approaches.
