Dr Madeleine Skellern is Director of the National Health, Sustainability and Climate Unit within the Interim Australian Centre for Disease Control, operating as part of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. She led the development of Australia’s first National Health and Climate Strategy, published in December 2023.

Madeleine is an economist by background, with a focus on health and environmental economics and policy. Before joining the Australian Government, Madeleine was Head of Incentives and Outcomes for General Practice and Primary Care Networks in the National Health Service England, overseeing over £1 billion in spending on quality improvement incentives in primary care. During this period, she led a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from respiratory inhalers while improving respiratory health outcomes.
