Professor Helen Evans AO

Professor (Hon), The Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne

Professor Helen Evans AO is an experienced leader and manager in both complex global health organisations and in the public sector in Australia with a particular focus on infectious diseases. Since 2005 she has held executive leadership positions in the two most dynamic and impactful public private partnerships in global health, contributing significantly to the evolution of these organisations and their major contributions to sustainable approaches to health and development.

Helen served as Deputy CEO at Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance based in Geneva from 2009 until retiring in 2014. Prior to joining Gavi, Helen was Deputy Executive Director at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria between 2005 and 2009. For the seven years prior to moving to Geneva, she headed the Australian Government's Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.

Helen now lives in Melbourne where she has an honorary appointment as a Professor at the Nossal Institute for Global Health at the University of Melbourne. She serves as vice-chair of the board of The Fred Hollows Foundation, as a director on the board of the Burnet Institute, and as a board member of the Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer.

Helen is a member of the Evaluation Advisory Committee of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Australian Global Health Alliance. She is also a member of the DFAT Partnerships for a Healthy Region Technical Reference Group and a fellow of the Australian Institute of International Affairs. In addition, Helen does a small amount of consulting work registered as HNE Consulting.
