SESSION DETAILS

Monday 22 April, 4pm - 5:30pm AEST
Main Stage

Cardio-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome encompasses the overlapping conditions of overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular and kidney diseases and is currently the world’s leading cause of death and disability. Further, a disproportionate burden of CKM is seen among those with adverse social determinants of health.

The Asia-Pacific region has a high burden of CKM, but also faces challenges around lack of region-specific evidence and lack of access to affordable medicines.

This session will be approached with an equity lens. We will discuss the burden of disease across the region, the gaps in local research, and barriers to implementation of guideline directed therapy including affordability of medicines. In addition to highlighting issues and challenges we will discuss potential solutions and a roadmap to implementation.
