Professor Basia Diug is the Head of Undergraduate Courses and the Head (Quality and Innovation) of the Medical Education Research and Quality (MERQ) unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She joined the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM) in 2006.

Prof Diug has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as research design and project management. She was awarded her PhD in 2013 for her work on an NHMRC funded study; a case-control study investigating the factors contributing to bleeding risk in patients receiving warfarin therapy in the community. Prof Diug has a particular interest in medication safety through the identification of adverse events both at an individual and systems level.

Prof Diug has been a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) since 2019. Her passion for evidenced-based approaches to medical education can be seen in her research which has a strong focus on improving research literacy amongst health professionals. Further, her interests include assessments with a particular focus on authentic assessment, progress testing and the failing student.

As recognition for her excellence in teaching Prof Diug has received numerous awards and fellowships including but not limited to being award the 2015 Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, 2019 Dean's Award in Excellence in Education and a 2017  Australian Medical Council (AMC) Commendation - Pedagogical principles and learning technology use.
